Lewis and Clark expedition

Lewis and Clark's great journey west begins in Washington D.C. and zigzags along the eastern seaboard encompassing the states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; then proceeds through Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri. The trail then meanders through the great plains of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and continues through the mountains and the valleys of Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, concluding at the Pacific Ocean. The Lewis and Clark Trail is a cultural destination that covers over 4,600 miles, crosses four time zones, and showcases some of the most  beautiful and rugged areas of America.http://www.lewisandclarktrail.com/communities.htm

As for me, I was learning that period of journey, when corps was in Washington in October, 1805. There they met native americans who was called Chinooks. The Chinooks were accustomed to European goods and white traders, so their first encounters with the expedition were peaceful.

On October 26, 1805, two Chinook chiefs and several men came to the expedition’s camp to offer gifts of deer meat and root bread cakes. The captains responded by presenting the chiefs with medals and the men with trinkets. Other Chinook villages along the banks of the river offered similar receptions to the Americans as they approached the Pacific Ocean and the mouth of the Columbia River.

It was rather boring month of trip, discovers were walking thought modern Washington state finding food, a lot of time they were travelling on canoe.

I found a pice of information from Captains' diary. It was October 10, 1805. The Captains wrote information about the Indians and made lunar observations. "The Cho pun-nish or Pierced nose Indians are Stout likely men, handsom women, and verry dressey in their way, the dress of the men are a white Buffalow robe or Elk Skin dressed with Beeds which are generally white, Sea Shells - i e Mother of Pirl hung to ther hair and on a pice of otter Skin about their necks hair cerved in two parsels hanging forward over their Sholders, feathers, and different Coloured Paints which they find in their Countrey Generally white Green and light Blue. Some fiew were a Shirt of Dressed Skins and long legins, and Mockersons Painted, which appears to be their winter dress, with a plat of twisted grass about their necks." I love learning about this expedition--how exciting, trapsing into the unknown. I was amazed when I found out that Sacagawea was pregnant, gave birth to, and continued trekking on with her infant son!
